Game Update 1.4.8 - 12/03

Posted by Tim Chappell | 2012 Nov 30 20:28 -0500 GMT

RvR Currency

RvR Currencies have been unified into a new, single, RvR Currency: the War Crest. All RvR Currency rewards, and all RvR Vendor pricing will now be in terms of the War Crest. The new War Crest has a stack limit of 2,500 Crests per stack, and will first go into your currency bag, then spill over into main inventory if your currency bag is full.

Currency Exchange

Two new NPCs have been added to the EvC Warcamps in Tier 1, and to the RvR Vendor areas of both Capital Cities. These War Crest Vault Keeper NPCs will take your old RvR Currency and give you Exchange Bags, which will refine into War Crests. There are two War Crest Vault Keepers to help exchange your currency, one who deals in Crests and Medallions, and another who deals in Insignias and Emblems.

Highlights

Live Event ‘Daemonic Gifts of Khorne’

Takers of Skulls, The Horned Ones, Hunters of Blood, Blood Crushers, Drinkers of Blood; the Daemons of Khorne have many names and many forms. Though the legions of Khorne dwell in the Realm of Chaos, occasionally they are able to enter the mortal world where the influence of Chaos is strongest. They fight not for honour, not for wealth, not even for victory – they fight for fighting’s sake, and for the favour of their wrathful lord.

Scenario Shakeup

The tide of battle continues to shift!  A number of old scenarios are making their  return, some are retiring for the moment, and others are shifting tiers.

Bug Fixes and More

After the introduction of Relics and revival of the Fortresses in 1.4.5, we decided to take some time to work on issues, bugs, and concerns that were on the mind of the community.  With the help of some of our regulars on the Forums and via feedback and other discussions, we created a punch list of popular topics to tackle.  This patch is all about those concerns.  We may not have gotten everything, but it’s a start and we will continue to address more issues as we go forward and roll out new patches.  Thanks to everyone that provided information, steps to reproduce, or just plain feedback on the list contained herein!

Realm vs. Realm Changes

As part of the feedback driven changes, we’ve made a few changes to RvR and the campaign.  There are a number of exciting tweaks or twists to the mechanics of keep siege, city invasion, and more so be sure to read all of the patch notes in that section so you’re prepared for battle!

Scenario Shakeup

One of the biggest changes that came out of the feedback threads is a change to how we handle Scenario queuing.  In the past you could queue for Scenarios based on the tier of your character and your Renown Rank didn’t make a difference.  To help alleviate that and change up the action in the scenarios, we’ve changed the ranks so that the initial queue covers the same level range it always did, but after that we divide the action by Renown Rank. For details on this change, see the section on Scenarios.

Realm versus Realm

Fortresses & Relics

  • We’ve added additional information on the current status of the Relic and Fortress ownership to the game.
  • The Advanced War Report window will now show this expanded information in a convenient window.  This includes the current location of the Relic, Claim status for the Fortress and sub-areas, etc.
  • The Advanced War Report can be accessed via the /adwar command or via a new icon on the mini-map.
  • The Fortress Generals have been moved around in the Fortress to make defense more strategic.
  • There are now magical barriers up near the Fortress Guardian that will stay up until the guardian has been defeated.  Once defeated, the barriers will drop until a reinforcement Guardian appears.
  • A new ribbon icon will appear around Character Portraits to indicate currently active Relic Bonuses, if any.
  • "Augment Alliance" buff will now appear on players inside Fortress areas when they are part of the controlling alliance. This will identify which of the Fortress Buffs are active on you, and which control point they came from.
  • The Relic Bonus for controlling the GvD Relics has been updated to include the chance to earn Insignia Clusters off player kills. Insignia Clusters can be converted into a Fused Insignia of the player's choice. If not converted within the decay time, however, Insignia Clusters meld completely and become useless
  • We’ve made some behind the scenes changes to how the relic system registers and responds to being captured.  This was done to help prevent a rare issue where a captured Relic would show as captured by the map but fail to spawn at the fortress.

General

  • Packmaster updates - AP Cost optimization on all abilities, and the addition of a new Aura, "Enduring Warpstone Charm," allowing up to 3 Group or Warband members every 10 seconds to have 1 Ailment cleansed.Rare drop seeds have been added as potential loot reward for killing Relic Guardians.
  • Ambient creatures in the Chaos Chapter 11 camp will no longer aggro guards.
  • Adjustments to the areas that define the RVR Lakes have been smoothed out and filled in, to be more continuous and better match the maps.

Tome of Knowledge

  • The Dragon Princes: Typos in this History and Lore entry have been corrected.
  • Ursun: This entry should unlock appropriately when entering the correct area.
  • Corruption: Upon successfully completing Stage 3, the appropriate entry will unlock in the WAR Story.
  • Devastator's Chestpiece and Shoulders: These items will now unlock the correct entry.
  • One Part Agony, Three Parts Cold Wrought Iron: This entry should now correctly remove the necessary items and requires all 3, rather than 1.
  • Blood Rite: Urghu Redhorn should respawn more regularly.
  • Bone Giant - Part of Parts: Brulgulrach the Unliving now looks like a proper Bone Giant.
  • Talk of the Town: This Tome of Knowledge entry can be unlocked once again.
  • Ssrydian Morbidae, when killed, will now grant credit as a Chaos Human, not a Nurgling.
  • Praag: Typos in the Noteworthy Persons description have been corrected.

Relics

The impact of the  recent Skaven invasion has been felt far and wide across the land.  The increased tunneling and incursions have  uncovered a series of hidden tunnels below the Fortresses in all of the home  lands.  Within these forgotten tunnels  laid Relics of a bygone era, imparted with a power that can affect the entire  realm.  These relics represent a force  that neither side wish for the other to hold and as such they have been locked  up tight within their respective fortresses.   New deployments and camps of defenders are available to assist the  stalwart in guarding their relics.  With  the hint of power and whispers of how the Relics call out to each other across  the land, the race is on to capture and hold these objects of power!

Fortresses

With the discovery  of relics of power beneath them, the Fortresses have once again become a strategic  foothold for the realms to defend and invade.   With resources stretched thin, the realms have appointed defenders for  the fortress proper, but have put out a call to all available guilds and  alliances to step up and assist the land in providing shelter for the  relics.  Resources are available should  the right defenders step up and help to keep the relics safe.  Step forward, claim the honor and plant your  flag at the fortress or at any of the new defender camps.  Or take the battle to the enemy and steal  their relics in their moment of weakness.   An arduous journey awaits those brave enough to try, but sacrifice is  required for greatness!

Grovod Cavern

The battle for  domination doesn’t only take place on the ground or on the sea, but underground  as well!  With the return of Grovod  Caverns, players from both realms will be able to battle for control of this  strategic underground asset by utilizing the same technology implemented  recently in the keep battles.  By  assuming control of Skaven troops, each realm will need to work together to  claim a victory.  For the mechanics and a  quick run-down on the rules for the new Grovod Caverns, see the scenario  section of the Realm vs. Realm notes.

Scenario Shakeup

In addition to the  return of Grovod Caverns above, the tide of battle continues to shift!  A number of old scenarios are making their  return, some are retiring for the moment, and others are shifting tiers.  Not only that, but some scenarios are  returning slightly changed!  The line-up  is based on player feedback from our Dev Discussions in the forums, so be sure  to vote for the next batch of scenarios!

Earn unique rewards by earning Event Influence as well as participating in the Curse of Kurnous Public Quest. Those who manage to face and defeat the Spirit of Kurnous may even obtain the sought-after Fleet Stag Mantle. Do you dare to challenge the God of the Hunt?

Keep Defense

Changes have been made to the Open Realm versus Realm campaign to provide incentive to successfully defend a keep against an enemy offensive. Push back on their attack, turn the tide of battle, and then take the battle to their front door. While you have them on the ropes, rebuild your outer keep door and take a breather. For full details of the new Keep Defense mechanics, see the Realm vs. Realm section.

A gaggle of new vanity pets have shown up in the capital cities! These pets are there to show off the new packs available on Origin (aka the EA Store). Highlights

Sigmartide

The Empire is about to enter into a state of celebration, as it honors its first Emperor and man-turned-God, Sigmar. Sigmartide is a new, two-week long, Live Event, tasking players of Order to seek out corruption, cleanse the wicked, and to honor age-old bonds with the Dwarfs; while players of Destruction are tasked with sowing the seeds of Chaos, desecrating celebration altars, and making a mockery of Sigmar's friendship with the Dwarfs. Whichever Realm you serve, this bound to be a season not soon forgotten!

RVR Accessory Sets

As an extension to the work we've been doing recently for items and gear balance, we've introduced a group of RvR accessory sets. Designed to fit in nicely with the high-end armor sets, these new sets can be purchased for RvR Currency from the Commodities Quartermasters in the Capital Cities. These items are temporary and last for 9 days.

Name Changes

Tired of your name? Want to change it up some? Based on feedback, we've added the ability to buy Name Change Token codes from the EA Store. You can purchase a code on the EA Store, or Origin as it's now known, and redeem it on the account that has the character you want to rename. Then just go into game, choose the new 'change name' button on that character from character select. Enter a valid name (subject to standard naming policies and conventions) and voila! You're a brand new you!

Scenario Shakeup

The battle has shifted! With the advent of 1.4.3, the lineup of the Scenarios has once again shifted. A number of old scenarios are making their return, some are retiring for the moment, and others are shifting tiers. The line-up is based on player feedback from our Dev Discussions in the forums, so be sure to vote for the next batch of scenarios! For a full list of the new line-up, see the RVR section.

Game Update 1.4.2 - 04/19

Highlights

Power Changes

The highlight of this patch is a continuing focus on the Tier 4 experience in terms of power levels and power gaps. We took a look at the mechanics for players at all applicable Renown ranks within Tier 4 with a specific focus on the interplay between characters that are above Renown Rank 80 and those that are below. Based on the metrics, feedback, and discussions about this, we decided to make some changes to the mechanics and items that are available within this Tier. A number of item changes, additional items, and small tweaks were made in preparation for this in the previous patch cycle. This patch continues that process. For more details, see the individual sections below.

Scenario Shakeup

The battle has shifted! With the advent of 1.4.2, the lineup of the Scenarios has once again shifted. A number of old scenarios are making their return, some are retiring for the moment, and others are shifting tiers. For a full list of the new line-up, see the RVR section.

New Pets

A gaggle of new vanity pets have shown up in the capital cities! From the loveable powder monkey to the enigmatic imp skeleton, there are fun pets to have for all. Some of them are just companions to follow you around between battles, while others are scrounging pets that will add 5% to the gold looted with them active. Over time, they'll pay for themselves! These pets are available for purchase via account entitlements that can be found at the EA Store. Adopt a pet today!

Highlights

Claim Window

With the popularity of account entitlements, we've decided to improve the in-game delivery method of items associated with said entitlements. Whether you have the plethora of items that came with the Collector's edition or an adorable vanity pet, we wanted to make it easier to claim your items! What this means is that item delivery for new characters or purchases will no longer go through in-game email. Instead a new Claim Window interface has been added that can be accessed via /claim or via the Account Entitlements button on the Main Menu. All of your items will be accessible in this new window and can be claimed at any time. No more expiring emails!

But that's not all! Accidentally lost your Trusty Mount? We've got you covered. Included in the Claim Window is the ability for characters to 'reset' specific items if they have lost or misplaced the original. Certain items, typically currencies and 'charged' items cannot be reset via this window. You can tell if a claimed item can be reset as the button will only light up for items that allow this functionality.

This new method of delivery will be used for all new deliveries to characters. Characters who have been sent items in the mail previously will have those items shown as 'claimed' and any emails with items in them will continue to be accessible until they expire. Items that have been sent via email previously will be able to be 'reset' if the item allows it.

Armor Set Changes

The Renown Rank and level requirements for several item sets have been reduced to allow players to use them sooner in their careers. With the new ranks for the above sets, a new armor set has been added to fill in the gap between Warlord and Sovereign.

Scenario Shakeup

The battle has shifted! With the advent of 1.4.1, the lineup of the Scenario offering will be changing. A number of old scenarios are making their return, some are retiring for the moment, and others are shifting tiers. For a full list of the new line-up, see the RVR section.

Optimizations

As part of our ongoing focus on giving players the best possible experience, we've made a number of behind-the-scenes optimizations to the server and client code to increase performance.

Game Update 1.4.0 - 11/02

Posted by Kai Schober | 2010 Nov 02 22:26 -0400 GMT

Highlights

RvR™ Packs

Timed to coincide with the release of 1.4.0 are two new booster packs that are available for digital download from the EA Store.

These packs are broken down into the Progression Pack and the Personality Pack. The Progression Pack gives players an opportunity to advance through the Renown Ranks faster and advance their character up to Renown Rank 100! This includes access to all bonuses, items, and rewards that are gated by the expanded Renown Ranks. The Personality Pack offers a variety of items to personalize a character. Included in this pack are several vanity pets (in a choice of 4 colors), new heavy mounts (in a choice of 3 colors), access to Barber Surgeon tokens to allow characters to change their look, and access to new and unique dyes on the dyemasters.

In the patch notes, there may be references to these packs (as appropriate) with details on how the pack or pack contents affect the feature or notes.

Open RVR

The mechanics of Zone Capture in Open RVR have been revamped. Gone are domination timers and waiting passively for a zone to flip. Gone are victory point pools to flip a zone. Instead, to take a zone, a realm simply needs to take the enemy keep. This is accomplished by capturing and holding battlefield objectives which will gather resources for the realm. These resources will level up the gathering realm's keep and allow access to the siege weapons needed to take the enemy keep. For a more detailed look at the changes and features, see the Open RVR patch notes section.

Renown Abilities

Due to the nature of the changes in this update, all careers have had their Mastery and Renown training refunded.

Renown abilities have been completely revamped in 1.4.0. There are no longer three tiered sets of abilities with purchase requirements before the next tier becomes available. Instead, all Passive Renown abilities are now available for purchase from the start. Players must now make the choice whether to invest in a particular ability at the start, or wait until they have enough points for some of the more expensive abilities. In addition to changing how the abilities are made available, a complete review of the abilities was done, resulting in a number of changes, the removal of some abilities, the removal of Renown Tactics, and addition of new active abilities. More information can be found on this feature in the Combat and Careers section of the patch notes.

Itemization

Game Update 1.4.0 introduces many changes to the game including new item sets available for players over Renown Rank 80. In an effort to ensure that item acquisition accommodates our new items and levels, we've made a number of changes to how items, item sets in particular, drop in the game. Generally speaking, players will now have more options and better gear available earlier in the game. As an example, Sovereign gear will now drop in stage I of the city siege versus Stage III. For a complete list of changes in itemization see the items section of the patch notes.

Barber Surgeon

Want to try out some of the new hairstyles introduced in Game Update 1.3.5? Well the Barber Surgeon is the solution! This handy NPC will allow existing characters to change any of their facial customization choices from the safety of the capital city. Utilizing the Barber Surgeon's talents will require that a token to purchase his services. These tokens can be found in the Personality Pack that is available separately via the EA Store.

Order may visit Seymour Skalp in the Market Square of Altdorf while the Realm of Destruction should pay a visit to Karven Nurfayc in the Apex to partake of these new services.
